Fresno Blossom Trail In Ten Images

Posted on March 8, 2020March 8, 2020by Paola & Joe
Fresno Blossom Trail

In late February 2020, we drove to Fresno on a photography trip. We woke up bright and early at a Fresno hotel, and drove straight to the start of the Blossom Trail. I’m so excited to share my ten images of the Fresno Blossom Trail with you! Our family has been going to the Blossom […]

Welcome!

We are a multicultural family of 4 who loves traveling. Before kids, we took any opportunity we had to travel the world, spending between a month and three months backpacking through countries in South East Asia and Europe. In 2018 our family took off on a year-long trip and visited over 20 countries in 5 continents. It was an amazing experience! We first started this blog to share our travels with our friends and families but, since beginning our journey, we’ve received a lot of questions from friends about traveling with our kids, so we decided it might be useful if we also share our experiences, tips, and tricks! 13 Spent some hot days at the beach soaking up the sun and all the fun!

There was a lot more in between, but these are the highlights! Can’t believe today is the last day of April!

Boulders Beach and the African Penguins! This was Boulders Beach and the African Penguins! This was the first thing I knew I wanted to do while in Cape Town! We had a great time watching the penguins, and then spent the rest of the morning hanging out at Middle Beach. On the way back we stopped for lunch at a brewery in Simon’s Town and accidentally ordered a very large beer 😂

The gardens didn’t disappoint, and the views of the back of Table Mountain were phenomenal! We loved doing the boomslang canopy walk and getting a different perspective of the gardens!

Cape Town. Walking around the V&A Waterfront, wat Cape Town. Walking around the V&A Waterfront, watching street performers, and enjoying the views. We also visited the @zeitzmocaa and really enjoyed it! The museum building is art in itself, and the installations were very thought-provoking. We really loved the “Understudies” exhibit by Nolan Oswald Dennis, which “offer a counter system for thinking about global, celestial and universal relations.” Turns out, even our night sky has been colonized 🤷🏻‍♀️
Mossel Bay: our last stop along the Garden Route b Mossel Bay: our last stop along the Garden Route before heading to Cape Town. We visited the Maritime Museum and sent a letter from the Post Office Tree, which is a South Africa’s oldest mailbox, dating back to 1501! Read about the interesting story on the last photo. We also saw a cool replica of the vessel used by Bartholomeu Dias to round the southern tip of Africa back in 1488. He was the first European to do so, and he was Portuguese.

Oudtshoorn, Ostrich Capital of the World! This tow Oudtshoorn, Ostrich Capital of the World! This town’s ostrich industry goes back to Victorian times, and today they continue to farm ostriches for their meat and their feathers. This is also a good place to stay if you are looking at exploring the amazing Cango Caves. This is what we did in the time we were there:

🍖 Ate dinner at Nostalgie, a family-run eatery that serves ostrich in many different ways. I had the ostrich steak and it tasted like filet mignon. It was such a surprise!
🦇 Explored the 20-million year old Cango Caves. We did the heritage tour, but you can also chose to do the Adventure tour and get really deep into the caves.
🐦 Visited the @highgateostrichfarm and learned a lot about these cool (but not very smart) birds!
🪴 Got a delicious lunch at @eight_bells_mountain_inn on our way to Mossel Bay from Oudtshoorn. This Inn has the most beautiful garden courtyard with a lovely playground space for children. This would be a lovely place to spend a night or two.

Oudtshoorn was a super fun stop on the Garden Route, and a great opportunity to see the Karoo region of South Africa.

Hiking in Robberg Nature Reserve was one of our fa Hiking in Robberg Nature Reserve was one of our favorite things we did in South Africa! There are three different loops you can do, all of them with the most gorgeous views of the Indian Ocean and dramatic coastline! We opted for the 4km loop to the Witsand dune and back, and loved it! We kept swooning at every turn! Tips:
.
🩱 Pack swimsuits. We did and loved cooling off at the beach by The Gap on the way back.
☀️ Start early so you can get a spot in the parking lot, and most importantly, to avoid the hottest part of the day 😅
🧢 Pack a hat, sunscreen and lots of water. If you plan to hike to The Point (11km round trip) also pack a windbreaker as the weather can suddenly change.

Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary. This place made our kids Lawnwood Snake Sanctuary. This place made our kids’ snake dreams come true as they had a black mamba AND a Boomslang snake there! The 1-hour guided tour was fabulous and super educational. I even got to hold a giant reticulated python! My first time ever holding a snake! Only a half hour drive from Plettenberg Bay. We stopped there on the way back from Taitsikamma. 10/10 recommend it!

After safari we drove down to the coast to start d After safari we drove down to the coast to start driving the Garden Route. The plan was to take a week to make it to Cape Town before flying home. Our first stop was Plettengern Bay, and a day trip to Tsitsikamma National Park to check out Storm River Mouth. At the park we did two short hikes: Mouth Trail (to see the famous hanging bridges), and Loerie Trail (to see the ancient native forest). It was such a fun place to explore! They have cabins in the park, so maybe next time we’ll do an overnight there!

After the park, we headed to Bloukrans Bridge to see the brave people bungy jumping from one of the world’s highest bungy jumping spots!
